G whole contains G, A, B, C♯, D♯, E♯. Box 1 roots on string 6 fret 3, string 4 fret 5, and string 1 fret 3 give a low-position grip.
G whole is a six-note scale built from whole steps only. Its intervals are 1, 2, 3, ♯4, ♯5, ♯6. Compare it with G lydian augmented, which lowers the sixth to E and adds F♯.
Use G whole over G 7th flat 5 or G 7th sharp 5 chords. It fits altered dominant chords in jazz and fusion. The scale also works over A 7th flat 5 and A 7th sharp 5 for a whole-tone color.
