F♯ whole derives from F♯ lydian augmented by lowering the sixth degree from D♯ to D♯♯. The scale keeps the augmented fifth and adds a minor seventh, which removes the leading tone. Compare it with F♯ lydian augmented to hear the difference.
F♯ whole fits F♯ 7th flat 5 and F♯ 7th sharp 5 chords. Use it over dominant chords in A major or D♯ minor progressions.
