F♯ 7th sharp 5 functions as a dominant chord in F♯ major progressions, such as F♯–B–C♯, the I–IV–V. It suits jazz, blues, and funk lines that need a raised 5th. It pairs well with F♯ major and F♯ 7th.
The D inversion puts the ♭7 in the bass, creating a dark, unstable sound. The F♭ inversion has the ♭7 in the bass as well but is higher on the neck. Choose the D inversion for a more dissonant line.
F♯ 7th sharp 5 is played at the 8th fret as 10 9 8 9: pinky finger on the E string at fret 10, middle finger on the A string at fret 9, index finger on the D string at fret 8 and ring finger on the G string at fret 9.
Tip — The pinky must reach the 10th fret on the E string while the index holds the 8th fret on the D string.
