E diminished is played in open position as 0 4 3 1: ring finger on the C string at fret 4, middle finger on the E string at fret 3 and index finger on the A string at fret 1. The G string rings open.

Tip — The ring finger must stretch to the 4th fret on the C string while the index finger stays at the 1st fret on the A string, a wide span for smaller hands.

E diminished is played at the 1st fret as 3 4 3 1: middle finger on the G string at fret 3, pinky finger on the C string at fret 4, ring finger on the E string at fret 3 and index finger on the A string at fret 1.

E diminished is played at the 10th fret as 12 10 12 10: ring finger on the G string at fret 12, index finger on the C string at fret 10, pinky finger on the E string at fret 12 and middle finger on the A string at fret 10.
