E 9th is played in open position as 0 2 0 1 0 2: middle finger on the A string at fret 2, index finger on the G string at fret 1 and ring finger on the high e string at fret 2. The low E, D and B strings ring open.

Tip — The open position requires fretting three notes while leaving three strings open, which can cause accidental muting of the open strings.

E 9th is played in open position as 0 2 0 1 3 2: middle finger on the A string at fret 2, index finger on the G string at fret 1, pinky finger on the B string at fret 3 and ring finger on the high e string at fret 2. The low E and D strings ring open.
